after noon：
– 12時（正午）過ぎと時間が特定
everyday：
– （当たり前に）毎日の、普段のという意味で形容詞扱い
every day：
– every(全ての～、～毎の）と day（日）で毎日という名詞

英語圏における時間の感覚で特に重要なのが noon（正午）です。ですので、afternoon というのは、after ＋ noon = 正午以降のお昼（正午～日没まで）と覚えて下さい。
後は簡単ですね。日没までが、afternoonとすると、日没以降が evening と覚えれば大丈夫です。
