ceremony と ritual の違いは何ですか？

ceremony, ritual はどちらも儀式、式典という意味ですが、

ceremony は、一般的な式典を表現する際に使われます。party をフォーマルに言い換えたものがceremony と覚えておくと分かりやすいかと思います。
wedding は、wedding party だとカジュアルな感じに聞こえ、wedding ceremonyも同じ意味ですが、フォーマルな印象になります。

ritual は、伝統的、宗教的に習慣化されたものを指すします。

Graduations is important ceremonies for students.
卒業式は学生にとって大切なセレモニーです。

One of the athletes didn’t attend the awarding ceremony because he joined his friends’ drinking ritual of victory.
ある選手は、仲間たちの勝利の酒宴に参加したため、表彰式には出ませんでした。

Johnny had his baptism ceremony a couple of years ago, and now he is holding rituals at the church.
ジョニーは数年前に洗礼式を行い、今は教会で儀式を行っている。

このように冠婚葬祭に関するイディオムは特に覚えておいた方が良いでしょう。また、海外では始業式がそもそもないような国も多いので注意しましょう。
