独特な英語での数字の数え方が分からない！first. second. third…って何？というあなたに是非習得して頂きたい、序数の読み方から英語特有の数え方まで、具体的にご紹介していきます。中学英語、高校英語、英会話など英語と付き合うなら一生必要になってくる数字の読み方です。

英語でよく見かける［first＝1番目］［second ＝ 2番目］［third ＝ 3番目］は、それぞれ「1」「2」「3」の序数と言われるものになります。
※「序数」の意味は物の順序を表す数のことです。

そして、よく使われる場面としては、英分の中などで以下のように使われます。

人物の1世・2世・3世　⇒　ルパン三世、ルイ13世
日付　⇒　2020年1月7日、2015年5月15日
分数の分母　⇒　2/5、15/31
病気の進行度、回数、順位 etc

序数には省略形がありますので、そちらも覚えて下さい。一般生活の中で、省略形のほうが目にする機会は多いかもしれないですね♪［first = 1st］［second=2nd］［third=3rd］となりますが、省略しても読み方は同じです。

1st = ファースト

2nd = セカンド

3rd = サード

のようになります。下に序数表を設けておりますので、そちらをご確認下さい。

アニメで有名な「ルパン三世」や歴史で有名な「ルイ13世」など〇〇 ◇世という名前を引き継いだ自分物の名前で序数を使います。

ルパン三世 = Lupin III = Lupin the third

ルイ13世 = Louis XIII = Louis the Thirteenth

年月日を表記する際には「日にち」の部分で序数を使います。

2020年1月7日 = January 7th, 2020

2015年5月5日 = May 5th, 2013

英語で分数を示すときには分母を序数で表します。
また、日本語と違って分子を先に数字読みをしてから、次に分母を序数読みします。

2/5 = two fifth

15/31 = fifteen thirty-first
