「プリント」として使う print, handout の違いを教えて下さい。: print :
名詞で「印刷物」「出版物」「新聞」という意味になり、学校で配られるようなプリントは handout と言います。
handout :
授業や会議で配られる、ある情報が書かれている「プリント」のことです。

print の語源を教えてください。: “print”はラテン語の”premo”で「押し付けた跡」という意味です。
これは英語の”press”と関係があります。
今は紙を入れると機械で印刷しますが、昔は文字盤にインクをつけて紙を上から押し込んで刷るものでした。
その名残から来ていると言われています。
ちなみに、日本では学校で配られる紙をプリントと言いますが、英語ではたまに print という人はいるものの、ほとんどの場合で言いません。

「print」には「痕跡」という意味があるのは本当ですか？: 日本でも「プリント」や「プリンター」という言葉が普通に使われているので、「print」＝「印刷する」とすぐに意味が分かる人は多いのではないでしょうか。
実は「print」の意外な意味として、「痕跡」というのがあります。

例えば「foot print」と言うと、足の痕跡になるので「足跡」、「finger print」と言うと、指の痕跡になるので「指紋」という意味になります。
日本で使われる「プリント」からは全く想像がつかないと思いますが、英語圏では普通に使われますのでぜひ覚えておきましょう。
